Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture

Practice

Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture is an award winning architectural practice which has been designing for education and the community since 1992. Our projects have involved the redevelopment of existing facilities, new build projects and master-planning and we have developed exemplar designs and systems for the UK Government Department for Education as models for school design throughout the country. We have worked with a wide range of clients from small community groups and charities through to major contractors, local authorities and central government.

The practice has designed educational buildings for all age ranges from nursery schools to universities as well as community centres, residential schemes and projects for museums, churches and galleries. We are also developing expertise in work to listed and historic buildings including grade I listed properties, Scheduled Ancient Monuments and work within Conservation Areas and have won awards for our ground-breaking sustainable design.

Regardless of the scale of a project, our work is characterised by extensive collaboration through workshops and consultations with clients, users, stakeholders and children.

Our design ethos is to provide a contemporary expression of a community's activities. We start each project with an investigative approach and an open mind so that the built form will be closely tied to the needs of both the user and surrounding area. Our best work provides exciting, provocative, inspiring and practical solutions.
